Dr G. Chandrashekar Reddy, a distinguished 1991‑batch Indian Forest Service officer, assumed the combined responsibilities of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) for Telangana State at the end of April 2025. An official order from the Telangana Forest Department confirms that he formally took charge on April 30, 2025. With academic credentials spanning forestry, life sciences, public policy, and environmental sciences—including degrees from Osmania University, JNU, IIM Bangalore, Syracuse University, and Kakatiya University—Dr Reddy brings a robust blend of scientific expertise and administrative acumen to this role
Since April 2025, Dr Reddy has spearheaded several transformative initiatives within the Forest Department. He has focused on watershed-based livelihood programs, urban forestry expansion, eco-tourism promotion, and implementing high-density planting models to enhance forest cover. Notably, he guided a forest-department delegation on an ecotourism-oriented study tour to Kenya and Tanzania, aiming to strengthen the state’s wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism capabilities, although the trip sparked some procedural debate regarding departmental protocols. Under his leadership as PCCF & HoFF, Telangana has also pursued alternative commercial plantation models, such as substituting eucalyptus with more eco-friendly species, and expanded eco-tourism initiatives to both conserve biodiversity and promote community livelihood. These efforts reflect a forest department increasingly aligned with environmental sustainability and socio-economic development.
